Hello,

While looking for some info on Kaja Silverman to send to a friend, I came across your site.  Fascinating!

I was doing a Master's in Film Studies at the University of Rochester in 1987.  I had been offered early admission to the Ph.D program by the then-chair of the English Department.   The next semester, at Constance Penley's insistence, I took KS's "Freud and Lacan" class.  I withdrew from the class two weeks before the end of the semester.  That was, of course, basically the end of my academic future.  I left the Univeristy, and finally completed my degree in 1992, working with the curator of a local film museum.

Kaja Silverman is pure evil.  I knew one grad student who needed to see a psychiatrist after the trauma of one Silverman course.  At the University of Rochester, she waged a vendetta against the art historian, Norman Bryson, who never did anything except to try to win her approval.  Her cultivation of favorites, her coldness, manipulation and especially her use of fear, is a DISGRACE to the academic world.  Every male professor shit himself every time she walked by.  Her (self) created persona is so strong, that her actual teaching is incidental, at best.  She is an idealogue.  She's a Stalinist, and I'm sure she would have felt right at home in the Khmer Rouge.   God help us.

Thanks,

I'm going to sign my real name, because I detest the academic left, and I certainly don't care if they know it.
